Overview:
Software systems are conceived out of an understanding and conceptualizing of a problem space. System Envisioning is about how we create possibilities for what the software system might and should do. The workshop is motivated by an interest in sharing experiences on the relationships between problem domain understanding and creative thinking on formulating systems concepts. We are interested in how different types of thinking and action are involved in developing the Conceptual Architecture of a software solution.
Goals:
In this workshop we want to identify motivational interests and share experiences on how system envisioning has happened and can happen in system development projects. We want to share stories on "leaving behind" an "as-is" system to re-conceptualize the possibilities of a software system, identify interventions and techniques that are important for imagining and sharing the possibilities for a "could-be" or "to-be" system, share ideas and experiences on the role of metaphors and analogies in system conceptualization and begin a dialog on the relationships between systems thinking and object thinking.
Focus:
The scope of System Envisioning covers requirements elicitation and generation, organizational designs, systems thinking, holonics and cybernetics, object thinking, creativity and imagineering, metaphorical exploration, synectics and analogical reasoning, human communications and dialogue.
Requirements for Attendance:
The format of the workshop requires that each participant produce a one to two page paper describing stores and insights on system envisioning. On the basis of the themes of the submissions, group structures will be proposed. Each group will be asked to present to the workshop and there will be time for discussion and new inputs to be given. The submission deadline is Aug 5 with acceptance notification to workshop participants no later than August 20.
