The OOPSLA Conference Committee and ACM SIGPLAN will sponsor the third annual Mid-Year Conference consisting of three day workshops devoted to Applied Object Technology, June 6-8, 1999 in San Diego, California. These workshops will bring together practitioners to share experiences and issues in the implementation of real world object systems, and will focus on applying object technology in major industrial domains such as telecommunications, finance, insurance, healthcare, manufacturing, electronic commerce, government, and education. (Three to four domains will be selected for the final workshops.) The goal is to lay the foundation for future expanded meetings at OOPSLA and other vertical application specific conferences. This should be an extremely valuable conference for participants because of the focus on real world applications and problems. The three day format will encourage detailed discussions and interactions. The proceedings of the Workshops will be made available on the Web and should provide a useful resource to the object community. Workshop organizers will be chosen on the basis of experience and knowledge in the application of object technology to specific domains. A set of organizers will be selected in each area to share the work and provide a spectrum of viewpoints. The workshops in each domain will run three days. Rooms will also be available for evening bird-of-a-feather sessions on generic areas of applied object technology (for example, frameworks, business objects, and project management). Proposals from organizers should include the following: (1) the application domain (for example, telecommunications), (2) a brief description of the goals and objectives of the workshop, (3) workshop organization, (4) a list of workshop organizers including the designated chair(s) and descriptions of the organizers' work and background in the domain, (5) the organizer's perspective on the state of object technology applications in the domain, (6) a discussion of the domain-specific future requirements and directions that should be addressed during the workshop. Proposed workshops must have an open call for participation, but participation in a workshop may be based on submission of a technical position paper. Proposals, questions, and early requests to participate in a workshop should be e-mailed to oopsla_midyr_wrks@acm.org. Further details can be found at the OOPSLA '99 Mid-Year Workshops web page. Proposals must be received by: January 29, 1999. Notification of acceptance or rejection of proposals: February 12, 1999. Email: oopsla_midyr_wrks@acm.org
