Denver International Airport
Airport
Denver International Airport (DIA) is a modern airport facility that opened in 1995. The Jeppeson main terminal, the centerpiece of this facility, is a distinctive architectural landmark. The roof is Teflon-coated fabric shaped into 34 peaks that raise 126 feet above the ground, symbolizing the Rocky Mountains. Upon your arrival at DIA, deplane and walk toward the center of your concourse. Take an elevator or escalator down to the train station. Trains depart every two minutes. The train trip from the farthest concourse to the Jeppesen Terminal takes about five minutes. Exit the train at the terminal, and take an elevator or escalator up one floor to level five, the atrium of the terminal. At the center of the atrium are staffed Ground Transportation and Airport Information centers. Baggage claim is located on the east and west sides of level five. Once you get your bags, proceed directly out the doors to curbside, if you're taking commercial transportation to your conference hotel. If you are being picked up curbside by private car, take an elevator or escalator to level four. Hospitality Ambassadors, volunteers trained to assist travelers at DIA, can be found throughout the airport. They are easily recognized by their white cowboy hats.

Denver International Airport is served by Air Canada, America West, American Airlines, Aspen Mountain Air, ATA, British Airways, Continental Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, Korean Airlines, Martinair, Mexicana, Midwest Airlines, Sun Country, TWA, United Airlines, United Express, US Airways and Vanguard.

DIA is located approximately 23 miles Northeast of Downtown Denver.

Shuttle Service
There is convenient commercial shuttle service to the conference hotels from DIA. Super Shuttle provides frequent service, every 15 minutes, to all of the hotels. Travel time is approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic and the number of stops en route. The ticket booth is located on the fifth level, and passengers catch their vans, shuttles and taxis outside the fifth level doors. OOPSLA`99 has a discounted conference rate of $27.00 round trip. Just let them know you are with "OOPSLA `99."

Taxicabs
Taxi service is readily available, but is a bit more expensive. Some cabs have flat rate charges to downtown hotels, ranging from $35 to $45 one way plus a $2.50 gate fee, other services are metered at all times. Each taxi posts its own rates. Taxis are available on level five of the terminal, outside Door 507 on the East side and Doors 506 & 510 on the West side. Shared-ride taxis are available outside Door 510. A customary 15 percent gratuity is additional.

Downtown Denver: The grid of streets in which downtown is located is just slightly off center, but all streets are oriented either north-south or east-west in a regular grid - although there are some exceptions. Public Transportation
The public bus system, Regional Transportation District (RTD), operates a service to and from DIA. This service, called "SkyRide", is operated from many parts of the city including downtown, runs frequently, and is very convenient. The "AF / Downtown" route leaves DIA every hour at 45 minutes past the hour from 6:45 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. The route takes approximately 50 minutes and costs $6 each way. As you board the bus, insert your money into the fare box next to the driver, you must have exact change. Buses arrive at the Market Street station, located at Market & 16th Street. Once on 16th Street, you may ride on the free 16th Street Mall shuttle (schedule varies depending on the time of day). You should be aware of what street your hotel is on, so you can get off the shuttle at the correct intersection.

Wheelchair Accessible information: All of RTD's SkyRide buses are wheelchair accessible. All of the shuttle services have a limited ability to handle prior requests and reservations. Wheelchair Getaways at +1-303-674-1498 and Mobile Access at +1-303-274-9895 will handle special requests with prior notice for pickup with specialized transportation at DIA.

Getting around Denver
With so much to see and do in Denver, we encourage you to take full advantage of the Denver Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau Concierge Desk at the CCC. They will be able to assist you with maps, brochures, and recommendations for dining, entertainment, and sightseeing.

Downtown is served by the 16th Street Mall Shuttle, which is free (located outside the Adam's Mark and two blocks from the Convention Center). Shuttles run every 1 to 2 minutes from 6:00am-10:30pm and every half-hour until 12:55am (Note: It runs much less frequently at night and stops running at 12:55am). It is a perfect way to get from the hotels to the restaurants and entertainment in "LoDo," the Lower Downtown. It also is a great connection to the Market Street Bus Terminal for regional buses to the entire area, including Boulder. The light rail runs past the CCC and connects to other buses from downtown . The RTD information line is 303.299.6000 and will provide route and fare information through the Denver Metro area.

Location
Denver really is exactly 5,280 feet (1,609m) above sea level. Denver is known as the Mile High City. Contrary to popular belief, Denver is not in the mountains; it is near them. Denver is built on high plains and is one of the flattest of all American Cities. Just 15 miles west of the city, the foothills of the Rocky Mountains begin a rising terrain that passes over the Continental Divide to peaks that soar to over 14,000 feet (4,267 meters). Although considered "Western" in character; Denver is actually just 346 miles (557 km) west of the exact center of the continental United States.

Weather
During November, the weather in Denver can vary widely. 50s is the average high temperature and 20s is the average low temperature. Denver receives 0.76 inches of precipitation during the month of November (snow being possible.)

Remember that Denver is a high altitude city! The air is thinner and dryer and you may tire more easily. Don't overdo exercise the first day or two. Let your body adjust. To keep from dehydrating, drink more water than you normally would (a water bottle is a Denver fashion accessory!). Consume less rich foods and note the effects of alcohol are greater at higher altitudes. Sunscreen, sunglasses, and lip moisturizer are a must.
